BEN BÖHMER – Live from The Hordern
The Hordern is proud to present the return of Ben Böhmer this October, as he brings his upcoming third record ‘Bloom’ to our shores; and takes over The Hordern (here at The Entertainment Quarter, Sydney) on 11th October 2024.
Ben Böhmer is a man compelled — a composer and producer who constantly seeks to give life to new ideas through his music. He’s now a decade into a career throughout which he has relentlessly focused on honing a craft that allows him to express deep, complex feelings. Ben tackled grief on his breakthrough debut album, Breathing, and separation on its follow-up, 2021’s Begin Again. The success of those records — almost 1 billion streams — and his ability to connect with audiences in a live setting — he played over 200 shows in 2022 — propelled him down a track that felt at odds with what he wanted. Despite the accolades and sell out events, he was being pulled in a direction that was not him.
His new album Bloom is a reset, a confident reassertion of his own desires and more improvisational origins. In Bloom, we hear and feel Ben’s growth, the joyful pursuit of newness that obsessively pulls him back to the studio day after day, season after season.
Ben Bohmer is a man compelled—a composer and producer who constantly seeks to give life to new ideas through his music.
His relationship with creativity hangs on the brink of obsessiveness, as evidenced in the studio, where he can spend days at a time on a single idea. Ben is now a decade into a career throughout which he has relentlessly focused on honing a craft that allows him to express deep, complex feelings. He tackled grief on his breakthrough debut album, Breathing, and separation on its follow-up, 2021’s Begin Again. These compositions, though electronic, are introspective, favoring emotion over function.
As a teenager, he studied piano without using sheet music under Christoph Busse, who instilled in Ben a love for improvisation and experimentation. This pursuit of creative freedom and experimentation drew him from rural Germany to Berlin as a 17-year-old, where he fell into the city’s freewheeling club scene. A formative period, he started playing clubs at age 18. They served as his informal conservatory, sharpening his performance skills and highlighting the transformative escapism and point of connection electronic music could offer.
This point of connection might be what best defines Ben. His music allows audiences to experience comfort and joy, melancholy and optimism. It is this singular emotional path, that he constantly challenges himself to tread in his music.
Join us this October for Ben’s largest headline tour to date, with stops in Brisbane, Sydney & Melbourne.
